Maasai Blanket Scarves - these are traditional Maasai wear, that most Maasai and other Nilotic tribes in East Africa like to wear (read about them here and here), being nomadic, they choose fabric that will last them long, keep them warm in the cold months of their life travels, is easy to but also very bright vibrant colours that work as protection from wild animals. Taking inspiration from our fellow Kenyan's we now all love to wear Maasai scarves celebrating our culture and love of vibrant colours. You can wrap it around a number of times or wear it as it is, use it a blanket on your bed during summer months, or a throw in your living room couch for colour (and warmth) or use it as table cover. So many and interesting ways to make as much use of you Maasai Blanket.
Scarves - Kikoy scarves - Kikoy's are (mostly) cotton wraps, that were traditionally worn by men in Kenya (like the Scottish Kilt!), - influenced by the Arab traders back in time - especially on the coast to help with the heat while working. Inspired by the abundance of vibrant colours found on the East African coastline, Kikoys are woven of stunning combinations of color and worn as wraps, sarongs, scarves, throws, used as travel towels, can be used as fabric for decor pillows and more.
Beach Scarves - Known as the The Kanga or Leso (leso), sarong or beach cover-up
The Kanga is a super thin cover-up in the prettiest printed fabrics, colours and designs. It is typically worn by women and occasionally some men throughout Africa.
The scarf is a rectangular piece of material made of pure cotton. It measures approximately 150 x 110 cm, and is wide enough to cover a person from the neck to knees or from breast to toe. The cotton fabric is so soft and gets softer the more you wash it. Wear it as a sarong at the beach (or at home on very hot days), as a scarf in the spring, fall and winter months, or you can creatively frame the leso for an interesting decorative piece.
