About our store:

Kasandy | Locally Global is a fast-growing destination for locals and tourists at the centre of downtown, offering consumers unique, everyday products and gifts at affordable prices, a fun shopping experience, and the opportunity to make a global impact.

Located at Granville Island in downtown Vancouver, Locally Global proudly exists as a collaboration among women small business owners focused on making an impact with fair trade, ethical products and gifts. At KLG, shoppers will find high-quality, handmade, unique, local and international handicrafts at affordable prices.

Our store carries more than Kasandy products. A collaboration that brings to life an old but exceptionally true African saying "It takes a village" in this case to succeed and make a lasting impact.

What can you expect to find at our store?

We are all about introducing independent artisans and designers to Vancouver shoppers. Our collection of baskets, furniture, handbags, leather goods, fashion accessories, house and home, kitchen and dining, kids’ games and apparel is curated from dozens of different creators, with 31 different cultural groups and more than 10 countries represented. We look for designs that have unique details that set them apart from other mass-produced products and brands. Many of our products are one of a kind.

Our products are more than just beautiful or unique – they give back

At KLG, we tell our customers that we believe the best aid that can be given is that of opportunity. Many people in Africa and other developing economies need an opportunity, in several ways:

  1. Capital in the form of micro-loans to start their small business and use their creativity to make a living. NGO’s and micro-loan entities work to help with launching new ventures. Canada has programs that lead in this space.

  1. Market – Artisans need a space to sell their wares. This is where I and LG come in. When artisans create beautiful products but have no way to reach customers, their families struggle. Being African, I know how hard it is for an artisan to wait to receive the proceeds, if and when their products have been sold. At Kasandy’s LG store, we shoulder the risk for the artisans. We buy products outright, directly at a price set by the artisans. Craftspeople are paid immediately, and then it's up to us if, when, how that product is sold. If it never sells, we take the loss.

  1. Sustainability - By having our store (including online at kasandy.com) selling products consistently, artisans receive a regular source of income. We often create new products in direct consultation with makers, resulting in inventory that can respond to customer requests. Steady payment for artisans means that they can provide education for their children and stabilize their communities. Choosing to buy the products you normally would at Locally Global means you’re giving an artisan in the developing world the opportunity to make a living

  1. Environmental Impact - Emerging economies suffer most of the effects of global warming. The rule at Kasandy | Locally Global is all our products be made using either recycled, up-cycled or ethically sourced materials only. You’re making the world a better and greener place by buying handmade products that use recycled, up-cycled, and or ethically sourced. You look good, and feel good.
